The Burl

the largest burl in the world!

Wow! HK and I really lucked out! While we were enjoying all the natural beauty of Port McNeil on Vancouver Island, we were fortunate enough to drive by this!

What is it? You may ask. This, my friends, is the World’s Biggest Burl!!!

After extensive research, I learned that a burl is an outgrowth from the trunk of a tree. Basically, it’s like a goiter. And this just happened to be the biggest one on planet Earth.

We’re thrilled to have happened upon this burl and to be able to share it with you.

Namaste.

  1. Wow! That is one BIG burl! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Guess what? My mom and dad got US a pop-up, too! Only it’s got hard sides and it looks like an “A” when it’s all popped up. It’s called a Shall-ay! We took our first camping trip with it last weekend. I wasn’t too sure about it at first but now I think it might be kinda fun. (I wrote a postie about it on Monday if you want to come over and take a look-see.)

    Wiggles & Wags,

  2. Can’t believe I knew what it was, as I think i saw one on a huge tree in California years ago and someone told me what it was. Neat one!

  3. When I was a kid my parents went to the Redwoods in CA and they were selling burls (they were MUCH smaller). The instructions were to go home and put it in water and guess what? Little baby trees sprouted out of it. I don’t know if that is natural or they rigged them some way as a gimmick but I remember thinking it was cool.
