Ready…Set….

We’ve waited a long time for this. I guess a few days longer won’t make that much difference…

HK and I have been packing, culling, and packing some more for our upcoming trip to “Naptown” (Annapolis, MD) to begin our foray into the sailing life. This will be a 2-month trial in and around the Chesapeake Bay to feel it out and get the hang of things before taking off on longer, further journeys by boat.

We finally got a dinghy, after many attempts to find one that suited our needs. We haven’t actually laid eyes, or hands, on it yet, but it awaits us in Eastport, MD, where we spent several weeks in April. We’re going with a new one, mainly because, since we are currently in Georgia, the used dinghy’s we were interested in either

A) sold almost immediately after arriving at the shop, or

B) were pieces of $#!t. And we are not willing to spend that kind of money into a dinghy that is sealed with Duck tape or flimsy looking. After all, it’s not just us we’ll be schlepping around on it, Roxie and Chance have to be safe in the water, too.

Let’s hope we like it when we see it.

Currently, our sailboat still sports her previous name, Panasea II. We plan to have it re-named Kismet as soon as we can get her hauled-out and re-lettered, but since that costs not only $$$ but sailing time, we’ll wait until we come back to Georgia in August.

We all miss our beloved dog Kismet terribly since he went over the rainbow-bridge May 1st, but will honor him by scattering some of his ashes off of the boat. I was just happy that he was able to enjoy a short voyage on his namesake sailboat before he left us.

Since we are no longer technically “3 Pups in a Pop-Up“, I reckon we’ll be changing our name of this blog pretty soon. I’m just not ready yet. It seems so…well… final.

In the meantime, there is still more preparation to do, but we agreed to keep our schedule pretty open to take advantage of the new opportunities and adventures that await.

  1. Great adventures ahead for you, Jeff, Roxie, and Chance! And what a nice tribute you are making to Kismet! Bob’s family has property in Matthews, VA on the Bay and his dad lives there. Really pretty, small, and Republican!

    • Thankfully, Eastport is a little sea of Blue! If you ever find yourself down that way, give me a shout, we’ll make some waves!
