Food, glorious FOOD!

roxie here! last night, i got soooo excited! mommy and diddy were sitting out on the patio talking about my favorite subject– FOOD!!!!!! oooooh, i was just drooling listening to them! unfortunately, they were discussing PEOPLE food, and we don’t get much of that, unless mommy “accidently” drops some on the floor.

anyway, they are trying to figure out easy-peasy meals to cook while they are on this extended camping trip. the pup-up has a propane stove but no oven. most campgrounds do have a grill and fire pit, tho. one prob is the fridge is tiny in the pup up, and they’ll just have a smallish cooler (i suspect that will be full of beer), so we need sugst, segus sugastuns we need ideas about meals.

we’ve decided to have a contest, so if you can help us out you’ll win….nothing. however, you will get a big shout-out and they will prepare the meal in a trial run and let everybody know how it turned out!

just so you know, mommy makes us say our prayers before we eat. here’s a video of us at dinnertime.

  1. Roxie,
Katie and Filly the greyhounds here. Whatever they do, make sure mom and dad DON’T make radical changes in your diet. We think you and your buds are going to have so much fun enjoying the changes in scenery, weather, and camping environment that you’ll want your same old familiar food to avoid tummy stress (which might lead to some unfortunate accidents). Mom might pre-package a week’s worth of kibbles for easier storage. And take some extra treats and chewy bones. Personally, we go bonkers over A.B. Dog Chew Mega, made from all-American beef pizzle, made in Ferndale, Wash., about 10 minutes from where you’ll be catching the Alaska Ferry in Bellingham. (T.W. Enterprises, Inc., Ferndale, WA 98248).

    • yay! we’ll have to check them out! mommy keeps us on our grain free diet all the time. hopefully we won’t have a prob finding it on the road.

  3. So far as people food goes, I suggest chili! The only things that need refrigeration are the beef (or chicken) and the cheese. Cans of beans and cans of tomatoes stack pretty well, and you can be lazy and use packets of seasoning instead of bringing all of your spices. Pick a new hot sauce to spice it up, and have some tortilla chips (or Fritos, I hear tell some like that) instead of corn bread or biscuits.

    • love me some chili- but am afraid of the after-effects in a little camper- maybe i can leave out the beans!

  4. People food for pups on a road trip might be a tad tough on the bellies : )
With such little space to store people food, maybe some vege wraps would be good. You would only need to store the tortillas (and maybe not if you did not buy the frig kind), sour cream, and cheese. Grill your veges or roast/stir fry them on small propane stove (will not take much time so will not use much propane), same with the tortillas. Wrap veges in tortilla with small spread of sour cream, shredded cheese, and salsa and you are good to go. Heathy, quick, and easy clean up…great for road trip food. We do this on an open campfire by the lake. It is great!

  5. I love pictures of dogs that get them in “mid-lick.” It’s just so uniquely “dog.” Seeing their tongue curl over their nose cracks me up.
