Son of a Beach–Everybody’s Nekked!

HK and i have houseguests this week, our friends Ken and Terry from the ‘hood in Atlanta. Yesterday the boys and i rode bikes out to UBC to tour the campus and go to the beach there.

We rode through beautiful Jericho beach and dog-friendly Spanish Banks beach along the way. here’s a pic of me.  ken shoulda told me to take my helmet off–it looks so goofy!

One of the women we’re renting the house from loaned me her bike and helmet–that was soooo cool! her bike is a beach cruiser, with just the one speed and pedal brakes.  it was sooooooo hard climbing up the hills on that bike, the boys had 5-speeds, so they pretty much kicked my ass going uphill.

It’s downhill all the way to Wreck beach.  Lots and lots of wooden stairs lead down to a wide, sandy beach where about 85% of the thousand people there were all-over tanned and bare-ass naked.  It’s Vancouver’s largest “clothing optional” beach, and was full of beautiful, not-so-beautiful, fat, skinny, young (several families were there-naked), and old.  i resisted the urge to tear my clothes off and go running into the surf, as did ken and terry. we remained “textiles”, as clothed ones are referred to.

I did feel a little awkward, and probably would have been more comfortable naked, but, believe it or not, peeps, i am very self-conscious.

It was really a fun, interesting experience to observe. naked people walking around selling beer (it’s technically illegal to drink alcohol in beaches in Vancouver), pot, sandwiches and massages. Something right out of the 60’s.  There were these 2 college guys in front of us trying to chat-up naked beer girl, and she flat out said to them, “drop your drawers and i’ll be happy to serve you a beer.”  they laughed nervously, remained clothed and fired up a joint, instead.

We hung-out there for a couple of hours, then rode home, stopping to snap some shots in Pacific Spirit Park along the way.

  1. hey girl, looks like you are having fun. Daniel and I went to a “clothing optional” hot springs in nocal…it was way fun and very 60s too. I was not so self-conscious because I didn’t know anyone there but D and he’s seen me in the buff already…teehee. It sure looks beautiful there and I know you are enjoying it and your sweet pups! xoxox, Betsy

  2. You have the best damn life! Did I meet Ken & Terry the last time I visited? I remember going to a house to see how they had remolded it, it was just you and me, Jeff stayed home. We had gone to dinner someplace in Atlanta and the next morning went to the lake.

    • morgan, it should be remodeled. and yes, that was ken and terry that you met. 2 great guys. most of the men here take great pains in “manscaping”, it appears! ; D

  3. That looks like such fun! I remember my first exposure to a nude beach. I was just 20 and it was on a Greek island. I don’t think it was supposed to be a nude beach, but people stripped down anyway.

  4. I have had some exposure to topless beaches but not the full Monty. I can imagine it would be a little weird for us uptight Americans. I am glad You and my brother are having such a great time..

  5. got an error message from the frakle gods, that must be a sign, unlike the clothes optional sign to Jules, looks like you had a great sight!!!!
