A Most X-cellent Adventure!!!!

rest stop on Vancouver island

rest stop on Vancouver island

This weekend, as part of our exploring British Columbia quest, Kizzy and I took mommy and daddy to Tofino, the westernmost drivable point on Vancouver Island. We  took a car ferry to Nanaimo and drove 3 hours west.  Forested mountains and crystal-clear lakes dominated the scenery, and we stopped frequently to take in the surrounding beauty, and to pee. While we were driving, a big black bear crossed the road right in front of our car!

When we got to Tofino (a pet-friendly place, of course), we went exploring.

Tofino is bordered by the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, consisting of numerous boardwalks to beaches through ancient old-growth spruce and red cedar forests. Sandy beaches, rocky coast and stunning fjords make up the coastline.  At low tide, the beaches were sooooo wide, and we just ran and ran-but since wolves had recently been spotted in the area, mommy kept a close eye on us!

After a full day of discovering new sights and smells, Mommy nd Daddy ate dinner at a wonderful bistro called SOBO in the funky little village of Tofino.

The next morning (July 4th), M & D went kayaking on the Clayoquot Sound and hiked in an ancient rainforest at Meares island. **Please read more about the significant ecological and environmental history of Clayoquot Sound here.

  1. The pic of you and HK in the kayak is stunning. I expect to see a big blowup of it hanging somewhere in your house soon!
