3000 miles in 4 days!

camping in the badlands (night 2)

OOOHHH—we have finally arrived in vancouver after 4 long-ass days in the car and on the ground!  we started our trip in nashville, where i picked up HK after having a fab reunion w/ an old friend and his wife-a new friend!

We had planned to camp the whole way, but as we made it to Kansas City the 1st night, it was still 87 degrees at 10 pm , so we opted for a no-tell-mo-tell. it sucked, but what the hell, it had a/c.

next day we hauled-it big time, BUT took a 20 minute time-out for the corn palace  in Mitchell, SD.   it is made entirely of corn–8 different varieties.  cool, but not.  photo worthy, i guess.  maybe not…

so, after driving 13 freaking hours to make up for time lost, we stayed at some campground in missoula, mt., and since it was just $14 a night, we figured, WTF!

so—we start setting up the tent and this little tow-headed kid comes up to us and says, “hey, do you mind if i ride my really loud go-cart all night tonight?? it’s really loud, but i live here all the time, so it’s all i have to do to keep me happy. ”  Thank god HK bought a big bottle of vodka tonite.   oh, that and ambien.  hmmmm…..

oh, this wasz funny, too…as we sat in line for half an hour to cross the border into canada, there was this van and all over it’s windshield was ‘honk if you love jesus’, and ‘jesus is my co-pilot’ . we chuckled how if you were going to smuggle somthing illegal into the country who would suspect the bible banger…  30min later we saw them in the inspection lot.  we laughed our asses off as their car was getting torn apart.  ha ha ha ha  jesus saves!

oh, and yes, i have on the same shirt all 4 days–nice and light and not too stinky.

  1. Oh Jules, this reminds me of a camping trip I did with my folks in 1986 when we went to the world’s fair in Vancouver! We went through the Badlands, even saw the Corn Palace! We took longer than 4 days though 🙂 Can’t wait to hear more. You know I’m jealous. . .

  2. wait a minute….you spent how many nights in Bhutan on top of a freakin’ mountain, and you couldn’t camp one night in the Midwest????
